Dear Duc

You should write your book. I will be the first to buy it.

Do you remember anything about your time in Kuala Lumpur? That's where I live, and I was certainly there in 1978. I remember my father telling me that Vietnamese refugees came to our shop (I was in school so I didn't see them) and spoke a different language so he asked if they are from Vietnam and they said yes. I think Kuala Lumpur used to have a transition centre for the boat people who were going on to their new countries.
Hi Chet, Yes I stayed in the transition centre. I remember being transported with the other fortunate refugees from Pulau Bidong to the main land of Malaysia. Twilight, a small skiff carried us from one island to the next. I couldn't believe that we were pulling away from the place where I had stay for a year. I look out to see other small islands always wonder what's beyond. It was night time when the air transport picked us up. I remember the guards escorts held guns. Once we are there at the transition point, everything was cleaner and more organized. There was a surplus of better and perfect squares of white bread. There were so much better in fact, we used them as oil lamp fuels. After not having to eat much, I was in heaven with white bread, a spread of better and white sugar sprinkled on top. We were able to explore a bit. I remember seeing school children. Some how I came into a possession of a set of small color pencils. The cover has a finely drawn picture of a horse and carriage. I look into the windows of the residents eating spicy food with their hands. Strangely dark skin people and a new language.
